Why Count Working Days?
Calendar days and working days are very different. A project that takes '30 days' is not the same as '30 working days' β one is about 4 weeks, the other is 6 weeks. Contracts, SLAs, legal deadlines, and business plans often specify working days. Getting the count wrong can mean missed deadlines, penalty clauses triggered, or projects running over budget. A working days calculator removes the risk of manual error.
Common Use Cases
Legal deadlines β many contracts specify 'X business days' for notice periods. Project planning β estimating realistic timelines excluding weekends. HR β calculating leave balances (most companies count leave in working days). Logistics β delivery windows in business days. Banking β interest calculations for loans use business days. Government filings β tax and compliance deadlines usually specify working days. Any of these become trivial with a working days calculator.
Weekend Variations Worldwide
The traditional Saturday-Sunday weekend applies in most of Europe and the Americas. But many countries use different weekends: Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt) uses Friday-Saturday. Israel uses Friday-Saturday. Some countries (Iran, Afghanistan) use Thursday-Friday. India is unusual β most businesses follow Saturday-Sunday, but government offices often use Sunday only. Our tool lets you customize the weekend days so it works for any country.
Handling Public Holidays
Public holidays vary by country, state, and sometimes religion. India has about 15-20 national and state holidays per year, but they're not uniform across states. For international projects, you may need to exclude holidays in multiple countries. Our tool lets you specify exact holiday dates so the calculation stays accurate. For long projects (6+ months), remember that new holidays may be announced β recalculate periodically.
Pro tips
- Always confirm which weekend days apply in your country/region
